Will Chuang is a partner in O’Melveny & Myers’ Silicon Valley office and chair of the Transactional Intellectual Property Practice. Will’s practice focuses on intellectual property counseling and structuring and negotiating technology transactions, including licensing, joint ventures, IT outsourcing, and complex strategic alliances. He also represents clients in intellectual property purchases and sales and in reviews of intellectual property rights portfolios in relation to corporate financing and M&A transactions. Will counsels clients on strategies for protecting and exploiting intellectual property and technology and on day-to-day operational issues in relation to technology, intellectual property, electronic commerce and privacy. Such advice includes comprehensive strategic patent counseling and providing guidance on development and testing arrangements, patent and other intellectual property licensing, distribution channels, technology deployment and electronic commerce issues.
Will’s legal experience includes practicing as an intellectual property litigator and patent prosecutor. He wrote an on-line reverse-auction business patent application, resulting in one of the first and most prominent business model patents to be issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Before law school, Will was trained as an engineer.
