John Daghlian

Partner


John Daghlian is a partner in O’Melveny's London office, and head of the Firm's Investment Funds and Securitisation Practice. He acts on a large range of international and domestic private equity driven transactions, including the establishment of private equity funds, private equity portfolio transactions, management buy-outs, secondary buy-outs, domestic flotations, and M&A. Additionally, John has advised on over 30 public offerings of shares by publicly traded private equity funds.

John has advised on the establishment of LBO funds, venture capital funds, clean tech and renewable energy funds, emerging market funds, real estate funds, country specific funds including funds for Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Hungary, China and India, distressed debt funds and mezzanine funds, amongst others. Unusually for a practitioner in this area John as well as advising general partners also advises a number of major investors.  Recent instructions include funds for Actis, Turkven, German Equity Partners and Development Partners International.

He has acted on innumerable spin-outs of private equity teams from financial institutions. He has substantial experience in secondary transactions and led the first European US$1 billion secondary deal, and has executed many since including the acquisition of the Abbey National portfolio by Coller Capital, the acquisition of 3i's life sciences portfolio by a syndicate comprising DFJ Esprit, Coller and Harbourvest, and the acquisition from Lloyds bank of the BOS integrated finance portfolio.

John is recognised as a leading practitioner in the field of fund formation by Chambers and Partners which notes his “in-depth knowledge of all aspects of fund requirements” as well as his “brilliant negotiating skills".
